Friday Morning Weather Update

A good Friday to you! Rain is moving in this morning and looks to be around for a while. There’s a 100% chance for rain today and tonight, as a wave of low pressure progresses right over our area. The rain will be rather heavy at times, with the possibility of 1 inch between now and Saturday evening. Highs will top out in the lower 60s today. After dark, the rain will begin to diminish, but another round of showers will develop over our area after midnight. Overnight lows will bottom off in the middle 50s.

On Saturday, we’ll have a good bet for rain on and off through the morning hours, with highs in the upper 50s. It looks like rain will taper off after the noon time hour, with the heaviest rain east of Starkville. Light rain and drizzle will stick around for the rest of the day. A strong cold front is forecasted to move through after midnight, we’ll still have light rain across the area, with temperatures falling into the middle 40s.

Sunday will be very chilly, with falling temperatures; highs will occur in the morning, with middle 50s, but temperatures will be in the middle 40s by early afternoon and middle 30s by 5 p.m. We’ll continue to see some light rain or drizzle around, but a change over to a few snow flurries is possible late Sunday evening on through noon on Monday. Don’t expect any travel problems because if we see any snowflakes flying around, it will be on the light side.

We’ll briefly dry out on Tuesday, but another system will march into town on Wednesday, producing some showers by Wednesday night. Expect highs on Tuesday to be in the middle 40s but upper 50s on Wednesday. Have a great day!

The nice weather we dealt with today will be shortly lived because some much colder air is on the way. Highs today reached into the lower 60s, with maximum sunshine. A strong cold front has now made it into central Mississippi. If you go outdoors tonight, be sure to bundle up. Temperatures are quickly falling into the lower 50s, with a breezy northwest wind. Clear skies will continue tonight, with temperatures approaching the upper 20s. We won’t have any frost in the morning due to windy conditions overnight. Tomorrow will be a raw, winter-like day, as highs only reach the upper 40s. We will still deal with maximum sunshine, but it will be cold. Friday night will be the coldest night so far this season, with lows near 20 degrees. You need to take the extra precautions to protect outdoor pipes and plants. This is what we call pipe-bursting type cold. Bring in pets and outdoor plants because we will be dealing with around 8 hours of sub-freezing temperatures.

Sunny skies will continue through Saturday, as we finally rebound into the upper 50s. Another freeze is likely Saturday night, with lows in the upper 20s. Widespread frost is likely. On Sunday, temperatures will really make a nice recovery into the lower 60s. Another cold front is on the way for Monday night, which will bring a chance for showers and a rumble of thunder Monday afternoon and overnight. Highs drop back into the lower 50s on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, conditions look dry on Thanksgiving, with temperatures in the lower 60s. We will see some really nice weather around for the holiday.

A good Thursday to you! There has certainly been a gloomy look to the sky today, with lots of low clouds and some light drizzle and mist around. The sun has been out in Meridian this morning into the early afternoon, which has really helped heat temperatures into the lower 70s. Meanwhile, temperatures have remained in the lower 60s in Starkville. We will see a few peaks of sunshine later this evening, especially points south of town.

Tonight, temperatures will drop into the lower 50s. There will be an increase in showers late. A strong cold front will enter the picture on Friday, which will bring a good chance for showers and storms. Highs will top out in the lower 70s, but expect a widespread coverage of showers and storms through the evening hours. The cold front will quickly move through late Friday night, with a shot of much colder weather in here on Saturday and Sunday. It will be a chilly weekend, with highs only in the lower to middle 50s for both Saturday and Sunday. We’ll have a blustery northwest wind on Saturday, which will make for a raw day. Clouds will decrease through the day, setting the stage for a mostly sunny afternoon. A light freeze is expected for Saturday night, but don’t expect much frost since the winds will remain an issue. As for Sunday, sunny skies will be around, with highs in the middle 50s. It will be a rather cool day, with a breeze out of the northwest. Once high pressure settles in Sunday night and winds go calm, we will be set up for a widespread frost Monday morning. Expect temperatures near freezing.

A warming trend will begin on Monday, as highs reach the lower 60s. You can expect to see a mostly sunny sky, but the warmer temperatures will be short lived, as a quick shot of cooler weather works in for Tuesday. Highs will only top out in the middle 50s. There will be limited moisture with this cold front, so don’t expect any rain out of it. Have a great day!

The weather over the next 48 hours will certainly be changing, as we deal with a warm day today, but much cooler weather by the weekend. Today, highs will warm into the upper 70s and lower 80s. This is well above our average high of 70 for this time of the year. With a strong south wind developing this morning, as a warm front lifts through the area; we’ll have an increase in moisture and clouds later today. This is all ahead of an approaching cold front, which will move through the area early on Friday. You can expect a round of showers and thunderstorms through the area late tonight on through early tomorrow morning. Don’t expect more than one half of an inch around here, as this will be a very fast moving system. A storm or two could go severe later this evening, but with the loss of daytime heating tonight and the better dynamics being further north, don’t expect much. Cooler air will move into town later on Friday.

The weekend is looking nice but cooler. Highs will top out on Saturday in the upper 60s, with sunny skies. After lows in the lower 40s Sunday morning, temperatures will only recover into the lower 60s. It will be a rather cool day, but with sunny skies around, it will feel pleasant during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

Conditions will quickly change on Monday and Veterans Day, with another cold front on the way. Highs will reach the middle 60s, with a good chance for showers and storms. We’ll have another pop of cooler weather behind this system on Wednesday, as highs return into the lower 60s.

It is still hurricane season, and we now have a brand new tropical storm in the Carribean. Tropical storm Paloma has winds sustained at 45 MPH but is expected to become a hurricane tomorrow. Paloma will quickly turn across Cuba and move out to sea. If you are planning a trip into the Bahamas or Caribbean Sea, be sure to plan ahead. The storm will be out of the picture by next Tuesday. Have a great day!

We are finally in for a warm-up, as temperatures are expected to warm into the lower 70s today. After several days of below normal temperatures and freezing nights, I’m sure many of you are ready for a warm-up. We’ll deal with sunny skies and warmer temperatures tonight. Lows will drop into the lower 40s, which is about 10 degrees higher than where we started off this morning. With ample sunshine, it will certainly feel nice.

The nice weather will continue through Halloween, which is some great news for everyone who will be outdoors. Highs on Friday will be in the lower to middle 70s, with mostly sunny skies. Once the sun sets, cooler temperatures will set in, as temperatures will be in the upper 50s by 9 p.m.

Don’t forget to set your clock back one hour before you got to bed Saturday night, as we will enter Standard Time. We’ll get an extra hour of sleep, but it will get dark much earlier. The warmer and mostly sunny weather will be around for the weekend, with highs in the lower 70s and sunny skies. Take care and have a great Thursday!

I hope you are having a great Tuesday! We are dealing with the coldest weather so far this season, as highs have only topped out in the middle 50s in Starkville. This has been a common reading across much of central Mississippi and West Alabama. Despite the sunny weather today, temperatures have remained chilly. With a north breeze, wind chill values have been in the 40s much of the day. There is some really dry air in pace, so expect temperatures to quickly drop off after dark. As high pressure settles over the area and winds go calm tonight, we will see the coldest night so far this season. Temperatures in Starkville will bottom out near 28, but middle 20s will be felt for places north of town. All of north and central Mississippi is underneath a freeze warning, so get ready for freezing temperatures across all of the area. With clear skies and calm winds, we will also deal with a widespread frost. If you have any vulnerable vegetation outdoors, be sure to take the precautions to protect them from the freezing temperatures. The good news is that warmer weather is on the way. The deep trough over the eastern half of the nation will begin to move out and we will see warmer weather move in.

On Wednesday, highs will warm into the middle 60s, with sunny weather around. Thursday and Friday will be very nice, as highs recover back into the lower 70s. We will continue to be underneath sunny weather, so the afternoons will be very pleasant. Lows will rise into the middle 40s by Friday morning. The warmer weather will return just in time for Halloween, with highs in the middle 70s. Be sure to bundle up if you will be outdoors Friday night because temperatures will quickly drop off into the 50s after dark.

The weekend is looking nice, with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will top out in the lower 70s; lows will continue in the middle 40s. Conditions will be very dry, with no rain in the forecast. Don’t forget to set your clock back one hour Saturday night, as we move back into Standard Time. Have a great Tuesday!
